A little girl became restless as the preacher's sermon dragged on and on. Finally, she leaned over to her mother and whispered, "Mummy, if we give him the money now, will he let us go?"

We all know that Church hasn’t always been the best of fun for Children, as the joke illustrates, but here in Melksham we are working hard to change that so that Sunday morning is the most exciting time of the week for our younger congregation members and their parents! There are many styles of worship on a Sunday morning, so come along and get plugged into our church family!

St. MichaelsSt. Michaels Church, Melksham

At St. Michaels we have developed an exciting service which seeks to feed the families in our congregation in a more contemporary way. t@4 begins at 4.00 pm on the second and fourth Sunday of each month. Starting with scrumptious food and drink; the services continues in a relaxed way with worship, teaching and a theme-based activity that will appeal to children of all ages! So join us in the Church Room for this service. In the meantime, we also have Sunday Club for all primary-school aged children every Sunday morning during our main service. Here’s how our pattern of services works on each of the Sundays during the month:

1st NumeralEveryone gathers in the church for the start of our service at 10.15 am. The children leave for Sunday Club near the start of the service, giving them teaching relating to the main theme of the day's readings, with accompanying activities, allowing everyone to explore God’s word at their own level! The children rejoin those in church in time for everyone to receive Communion or a blessing.

2nd Numeral_croppedSunday morning follows the same format as the first Sunday, but don't forget our exciting t@4 in the Church Room in the afternoon!

3rd NumeralThere is still Sunday Club on the third Sunday, although the main service takes a slightly different format, with Worship and teaching in the first part of the service, often including a baptism. The children rejoin those in church in time for a break for refreshments, then after a short interval those who wish can stay for a short service of Communion.

4 _5_NumeralsWe aren’t always sure which of these Sundays will be the last in the month and so that makes it a bit confusing!  Whichever Sunday is the last of the month is our Team Service, and this means the congregations of the Three churches in the Team join together in one of the churches. Please see the Home Page for details of this month's service. It’s a great way to meet other local Christians and socialise with the wider Church in Melksham.  If the Team Service lands on the 5th Sunday, then we will have the same service structure for the 4th Sunday as we have for the 1st Sunday.  Either way, there is Sunday Club so no-one is missing out! However, don't forget that in the afternoon of the fourth Sunday we will be having great fun and food at t@4!

 St. Andrews

St. Andrews Church, Forest

Here at St. Andrews, we love having families at Church!  We offer a slightly more traditional service than St. Michaels, but it’s still packed with great stuff!  Why not come along at 10.00 on a Sunday morning and find out what’s going on?  Here’s a sneaky peak...

1st Numeral_St_AToday is Family Communion! There is hearty biblical food for parents, and a relevant, exciting Junior Church for the children.  Both groups will be focussed around similar teaching Perhaps the Kids can give you a fresh understanding of your Sunday Sermon?  After this we come back together to receive communion as one big church family.

2nd Numeral_St_ASnap!  This service follows the same format.

3rd Numeral_St_AAt the heart of our churches vision, lies the importance of receiving new members to our congregation through baptism.  We love to welcome families as a whole church, so there will be no Sunday Club, but there will be tons of fun!  This is an interactive; all age service which is sure to get you excited about God!

4th Numeral_St_AWhen we get to the end of the month, it all starts getting a bit more confusing!  Whichever is the last Sunday of the month is our Team Service, held in one of our Three churches, please see the Home Page for details of this month's service. If there is a 5th Sunday then the 4th Sunday has the same format as the 1st Sunday and is at St. Andrews as normal!  Whatever happens, there will be Junior Church!  Phew!

 Messy Church

A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible; Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the verse. Little Rick was excited about the task — but, he just couldn’t remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, “The Lord is my Shepherd, and that’s all I need to know.”

Two girlsIf you love games, crafts, songs, stories, great food and even better company then Messy Church could be just what you are looking for! We meet on the third Saturday of every month, for a few hours to explore a bit of the Bible through several activities that don’t fit the idea of a ‘standard Sunday service’ as expressed in the joke above! The time always flies, but it’s always great fun! So come along and see for yourself, we meet in The Manor School.

This is a brilliant way to spend a few hours as a family, exploring a new expression of worship outside of the church building. It doesn’t matter if you already come to church, or can’t manage Sundays – EVERYONE is welcome!

For the most up-to-date information on when this is happening, then visit our sister site but to wet your appetite for fun, here are some snapshots of past gatherings of Messy Church!

Something else that’s brilliant and regular for you to get plugged into is Little Cherubs!

Lad playing_with_bricksWe have two groups that meet each week, and they are a great place to meet other people with little ones!  Little Cherubs sees Mums, Dad, Grandmas, Grandads and carers bringing children from as young as a few days old, right up until they are starting school at age 4.  Both groups run during term time, and occasionally offer ‘drop in’ sessions during school holidays where you can bring older brothers and sisters along too.

There is plenty to do during each session, so the little ones are never bored!  With tons of toys, varied craft activities each week, snack time where we tuck into some yummy fresh fruit, story time and a chance for singing songs, we aim to send them home worn out!

So, when and where do we meet?

 St. Andrews

Little Cherubs in the Forest, meet on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 11.30 at St. Andrew's Church Hall.

St. Michaels

On Friday mornings from 10.15 11.45 the other Little Cherubs group meets at St. Michael's Church Hall

Both groups are totally free, so why not come along and make some new friends?  We can’t wait to meet you!
